We're launching something new: a Complete Streets Activation Mini-Grant, ranging from $500-$2000 for community projects to engage residents and get them active using new complete streets improvements and the City's Moving New Orleans low-stress bikeway network.
The grants will fund community groups, civic organizations, local businesses, faith communities, and neighborhood leaders to develop a project or event to build grassroots support for safe and accessible mobility, Complete Streets, and/or the City's new, expanded low-stress bikeway network.
Apply for the Complete Streets Activation Mini-Grant starting May 4th!
Register below for a 1-hour webinar next Thursday, May 14th, from 12:00 - 1:00pm, where Robert Henig Bell with Bike Easy and Lilith Winkler-Schor with Algiers Economic Development Foundation will answer your questions about NOCSC's campaign and the new Complete Streets Activation Mini-Grant.
Protected bike lanes, ADA accessible ramps, new sidewalks, bus islands, flood mitigation measures, and traffic calming installations are all parts of what makes a Complete Street. But what really makes a street complete are people: people out for a stroll, biking to get coffee, driving to get to work, or riding the bus to get groceries.
Here’s some examples of activities the Mini-Grant could fund:
- Community bike rides
- Leading a neighborhood safe mobility project
- Walking tours
- Temporary art installations
- Essay/photo contests
- Community events
It's with people, our community health, and all the ways we move around in mind, that we're pushing the City and our communities to support more safety and less stress on New Orleans streets. The Complete Streets Activation Mini-Grant is meant to empower local residents and leaders to showcase how these benefits can empower their communities.
